COORDINATOR, LABORATORY TECH & BIOTECHNOLOGY CENTER

Western Kentucky University, Department of Biology is seeking applications for an experienced Coordinator to operate the Laboratory Tech & Biotechnology Center Core Facility.  The core facility is located into a new state-of-the-art building.  Major equipment in the facility includes 2 DNA sequencers, a real-time PCR machine, a fluorescence imaging system, a fluorescence deconvolution microscope, an Agilent bioanalyzer, and an HPLC.  The main function of the center is to facilitate the diverse research activities of the center members and their students.  All properly trained students are granted access to the core facility equipment and supplies.  For more information visit the Biotechnology Center's home page at: http://biotech.wku.edu/.  This a regular twelve-month, full-time position.

Essential Duties:

  • Manages and maintains Biotechnology Center Core Facility.
  • Directs work-study students and trains them into valuable support personnel in core facility service.
  • Teaches and mentors students in the safe application of biotechniques and the operation of the Core Facility's equipment.
  • Effectively communicates with faculty, staff and other center members.
  • Effectively communicates the mission and research being conducted by the Biotechnology Center members to visitors, school groups and dignitaries.
  • Functions as the safety officer for the Biotechnology Center.
  • Supports faculty-sponsored research.
  • Supports faculty in implementing new techniques into the classroom setting.
  • Teaches Research Skills II: Biotechnology course.
  • Maintains inventory, supplies and service contracts, and all Core Facility equipment.
  • A willingness to teach and learn are essential and professional development is expected.  
Responsibilities:
  • M.S. Degree or a B.S. Degree with equivalent experience, and broad experience in molecular and cellular techniques and instrumentation.
  • Must be well organized and able to manage laboratory services and equipment effectively.
  • Must be able to direct student workers and undergraduate/graduate researchers in the safe application of biotechniques in a research-oriented environment.
Salary Grade: 108    Expected Salary Range: $37,000 - $41,000 annually.

The Department of Computer Science seeks candidates in any area of Bioinformatics for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. We are particularly interested in candidates familiar with computational biology and bioinformatics applications in the life sciences. A doctorate in a related field is required. Research involves the expression, localization, and determination of the ion specificity and cellular/physiological function of the transporters. Faculty Positions in Developmental Biology
Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy
THE MEDICAL COLLEGE OF GEORGIA

We are seeking an outstanding developmental biologist for a tenure track position at the Assistant, Associate Professor or Full Professor level. The area of research is open. Current strengths include development of the eye, ear, heart, gut, neural tube, musculoskeletal system, and pattern formation in Drosophila, zebrafish, chick, and mouse. Excellent opportunities exist for collaboration using state-of-the-art imaging, transgenic, proteomics, flow cytometry and molecular biology core facilities. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D., postdoctoral experience, a strong publication record, and potential for extramural funding at the Assistant and significant current funding at the Associate or Full Professor level.
