INBRE-Award. Kentucky received an IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (KY-INBRE) award in 2004 with a starting date of August 6th. The principle goal of this five-year award is to fund independent biomedical research proposals from junior faculty in four universities (Morehead State University, Northern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, Eastern Kentucky University) associated with the state's biomedical network. Such funding will enable 11 faculty to become competitive for future independent federal funding. The award also continues the funding for the statewide bioinformatics initiatives, and the outreach initiatives started through the initial three years KBRIN) and led by the two major research institutions (University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville). The NIH:NCRR IDeA awards are administered by the University of Louisville.
