KBRIN-Sponsored Summer Research Opportunities for Kentucky Undergraduate Students

KBRIN funds up to 20 undergraduate students to receive gene-based research and/or informatics experience at either the University of Louisville or the University of Kentucky. Students are mentored by faculty who are actively engaged in biomedical research. Priority will be given to students entering their sophomore or junior years, who are considering careers in biomedical research.

Ten Week Summer Research Program

The summer program will take place over 10 weeks between early June and mid-August. Student stipends consist of an award of $3,500, free housing (if necessary), and travel expenses of up to $250 (if required) to present data at a scientific conference such as the annual meeting of the Kentucky Academy of Science.

The deadline for the 2008 Summer program is March 1, 2008. Interested students should fill out the on-line application form or forward applications to the chair of the KBRIN Committee for the Undergraduate Summer Research Program:

Applications must include:

  1. A letter of interest from the student describing why they are interested in this program
  2. A copy of the student's most recent college transcripts
  3. A letter of recommendation from a major professor
  4. Request for housing (free), if needed
  5. Student statement of intent to present research results at a scientific conference at the earliest opportunity.
